The pony car wars are alive and kicking, alright. The Blue Oval gave us the bare-knuckle Shelby GT350R Mustang, Dodge upped the ante with the 707 horsepower Hellcat twins, now GM comes out to play with the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro and a C7 Corvette-sourced 6.2-liter LT1 small-block V8 blunderbuss.
Pardon the Jeremy Clarkson-esque "in the world," I used in the title of this piece here, but the guy that calls the Camaro at hand "the first production model" of the 2016 model year is probably the most high-and-mighty prick we've seen so far today. Jeff Thisted posted the adjacent video on his Facebook account, telling us that we're in the presence of "the first C6 2016 Camaro available for sale on the planet. And I got to drive it!!" Gee, great achievement! Want a medal for that?
You don't deserve it, sonny boy! Not when you mistakenly refer to the featured black-with-white-striped 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS as the first production model of the breed. Dear Jeff, production hasn't started yet. It's a mere CTF model, a captive test fleet vehicle given to GM's employees to test drive for final evaluation prior to market release. At this moment, we will ignore Jeff for a very different matter.
Truth be told, we're dealing with a rather different sounding NPP compared to the Corvette and 5th-generation Camaro. If you're curious how much you'll have to pay for entering the SS club, that'll be $37,295 for the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro 1SS. It may cost about 5 grand more than the $32,300 Ford Mustang GT, but the new 'Maro has what it takes to shame the FoMoCo pony in terms of performance and audacity.
