When Flavio Manzoni joined the Ferrari team five years ago, he was given the task of defining the visual identity of all future Ferrari cars. He is the man leading the style center team that developed the concept of Ferrari FF, LaFerrari, and F12berlinetta. Here’s something you don’t know about the Italian automobile designer: he has an infatuation for spacecraft that begun when he was just a child in his native Sardinia.
Before joining the exclusive Ferrari team, Manzoni realized the concept of the Lancia Fulvia Coupe, the Lancia Ypsilon, and the Lancia Musa. These brought him the European Automotive Design Award in 2003. He also worked with Volkswagen as art director, where he designed the Volkswagen Golf Mk6.
A series of highly esteemed prizes followed, and the most recent acclamation was the Red Dot Award, a prize Manzoni received in March for his direction of the Ferrari Style Center. The prestigious international design competition celebrated the FXX K, California T, and LaFerrari.
Sure, you guys might have heard of these before, but we felt it’s important to start with the designer’s best projects to make sure everybody knows this is not a joke.
“It all started as a bit of fun. At first it was a sketch, or rather, a series of sketches, then [it developed] into a rendering,” the Ferrari Design Director told Form Trends. We believe it’s safe to name this rendering Ferrari’s spaceship.
Will it become an actual craft humans will use one day? Maybe, but Manzoni is also willing to accept the idea an outer space species might offer a helping hand to construct it.
Wait, what? Yes, aliens that are more developed than humans would build it for us. This last part must be a joke of some kind, if not some kind of an April Fool’s prank.
Nonetheless, the rendering is definitely worth mentioning since we might be looking at the Ferrari spacecraft of the future. Call it future high-end transportation if you want.

It’s the result of Manzoni’s interest in UFOs that apparently started when he was just a kid. He’d look at the large terrace at the top of the six-story building he lived in and imagine that a spacecraft could one day land there. Add a bit of Area 51 stories and science fiction movies of the times to that and you get a question mark that seems to be still in LaFerrari’s creator mind.Will it become an actual craft humans will use one day?
