Soon the world will be celebrating two years since American president Donald Trump decided to add a new branch to the U.S. military for the first time in 70 years: the Space Force.
The creation of this organization (the sixth branch of American military) was made official in August 2018 by America’s head honchos, by means of a five-point declaration signed by the president.

The reasons behind the creation of this unit are of course America’s biggest rivals, China and Russia. Despite fighting neither directly on Planet Earth, the U.S. is getting ready for a possible confrontation in space, where there are no proxies to play around with.

It’s unclear yet whether the Space Force will be breaking the rules established through the 1960s Outer Space Treaty (that’s short for Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies), that banned more than 100 nations, including the U.S., from testing weapons, military maneuvers, the establishment of military bases, installations, and fortifications in space.

The men and women of the Space Force, armed with tech created by the brand new Space Development Agency will have to find threats high above the planet and the ways to mitigate them. You can find the details on how it is all supposed to work at this link.

The administration is serious about this, but the world’s favorite streaming service is not. We’ve known for a while Netflix is working on a series that is to show the struggles the military will have to go through to set the thing up.

Dreamt up by Greg Daniels and Steve Carell, the series also stars John Malkovich and Lisa Kudrow, among many many others.

Some of the characters have been revealed on May 5 by Netflix with the release of the first official trailer-length teaser. You can check it out in the video attached below.
