If you haven't seen the 1968 American thriller Bullitt yet, do it. Not because Steve McQueen plays SFPD Lieutenant Frank Bullitt, but for the iconic car chase scene through the streets of San Francisco. If you don't have the time to watch Bullitt, then Zachary Genteman could make you think twice about it.
Although Zachary doesn't own a car, one thing is certain about this guy – his nostalgia-packed Parked project explores the retro-cool side of San Francisco and its cars. We're not sure if Mr. Getneman has ever seen Bullitt, but old cars juxtaposed against San Francisco's culturally rich streetscapes are brilliant.
It all started like a treasure hunt, snapping old rust buckets with his iPhone. He then swapped Apple's best seller for a FujiFilm X-T1 or a Ricoh GR for better photographic quality. According to him, most of the 400 cars he shot were spotted while riding his motorcycle. Another interesting thing about Zachary's passion is that his car knowledge is limited.
But knowledge is overshadowed by his talent and devotion for the Parked Instagram project, which has amassed 18,100 followers on Instagram. On the online mobile photo-sharing network, Zachary uploaded simple yet powerful photographs of everything ranging from Volkswagen Beetles and Camper Vans to BMW 2002s and Ford Galaxie 500s. “Each car has its own unique character,” Genteman declared for Wired Magazine. “It’s fun to imagine some of the adventures these automobiles have had throughout the decades.”
But at the end of the day, an Instagram account doesn't earn one's keep. As such, Zachary works as an operations manager at Lumoid, a San Francisco-based company specialized in camera, lens, drones, and wearable gear rentals. Some people are adamant that trying to force creativity is never good, but we think that making the most out of one's free time is what brought Zackary Genteman's artful project to life.
