This Futuristic Faucet Concept Was Inspired by Audi... Apparently

As we walk around the outskirts of the automotive industry, we quite frequently stumble upon peculiar, if not mad ideas. Now and then, industrial designers come up with some of the weirdest schemes possible. However, what truly makes the jaw drop is what they claimed inspired them in the first place. It’s the case with the creator of this faucet concept who says Audi somehow is related to it.

Fau what? Faucet is the fancy word for a regular spigot or, put simpler, a tap. It’s what you’d normally use to wash your hands after conducting the biological needs. For this industrial designer, it’s not. We first learned of Fraser Leid’s work when we discovered an odd concept of a speedboat that allegedly was inspired by the Bugatti Type 57. The Brit brainiac has returned with yet another automotive-related peculiar design and we simply had to share it with you people.

Dubbed Hudor (the Greek word for water) the futuristic-looking Faucet incorporates a system that allows the user a “hands-free washing experience.” Wait, don’t take it literally. It does it by integrating a motion detector, an easily replaceable liquid soap dispenser, and a bacteria disinfectant black light.

Leid claims the concept uses many features from Audi’s automotive ethos, by incorporating futuristic materials as well as innovative systems. “Grohe’s ethos is addressed with an intelligent mixer system as well as harmoniously blending the various substances that the faucet utilizes,” the designer details.

Carbon Composites

The faucet utilizes Carbon Composites that act as a shell of the main base of the mixer. The circular ring component consists of Tempered Glass, which encases two Aluminum rings both of which have a specific function. One of these rings houses several Spouts, which produce soft jets of water in various directions. The other ring houses a Black Lighting component, which is used to sterilize the users hands while they are being washed.

That’s not all. A small infrared sensor located at the base of the spout ring will detect motion from the user, thus activating the system. There’s also a simplified temperature adjustment dial situated in the front of the base.

So far so good, but how do all these have anything to do with Audi?
