This Floating City Concept Shaped Like a Manta Ray Is Mind Blowing

Some of the larger species of Manta rays reaches 7 meters (23 ft) in width while the smaller ones reach up to 5.5 m (18 ft 1 in). Yes, that’s impressive, and it’s mother nature’s way of showing us how great she can be, and how small us, humans are. This French architect, who calls himself "a man of the sea," has reimagined the gorgeous being into what could once be an exploration city of the sea.

Say you ever vacation on a tropical island, you may want to take that diving day-trip to check out these beauties because both species are listed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. You never know if you’ll get the chance in the future.

Nevertheless, we’re not here to discuss creatures of the ocean and vacations. Our proposal relates to this peculiar rendering of a floating city that belongs to Jacques Rougerie, a renown architect from France. With a 43-year career, he has designed multiple sea creations with some getting to be produced.

The one in question is thought as a floating university city, nearly 3,000 feet (914 meters) long and 1,600 feet (487 meters) wide. Rougerie says the structure will house 7,000 international researchers, professors and students for extended days, which is why he has designed it to be completely sustainable and autonomous.

Featuring a vast network of classrooms, lecture halls, laboratories, living quarters and dedicated areas for leisure and sports, it would run on marine renewable energy and produce zero waste. And that’s not all. According to The Creators Project, its inner lagoon would welcome vessels conducting oceanographic research.

Alien worthy? Maybe. Some may look at this concept as if it was a mad idea that belongs to the Science Fiction literature, but we should remember that the world initially saw Jules Verne’s ideas in a similar way.
