Custom cars are very much like art, one could argue: some are awesome projects, some are downright dumb and shouldn’t even exist, while a few fall in that gray area of “this is stupid but cool nonetheless.” Like this one.
In September last year, an unlikely viral star rose after redditors tried to shame it and its owner. It’s was a “rat rod” 1996 Toyota Camry that had been rusted out on purpose, had smashed windows and a cut off roof, large aftermarket wheels and fenders carved out of license plates, and the exhaust peaked right through a hole in the hood.

Looking at it, you could not decide whether to hate it, love it or hate yourself for loving it. It was stupid, alright, but it was also decidedly cool, and, regardless of the first impression it made, it had clearly been built with a certain amount of attention to detail, if not actual skill.

That Toyota Camry is now for sale, in case you want to make sure to get all eyes on you. The owner, one Austin Lee Ingram from Georgetown, Indiana, is selling it on Facebook Marketplace for a measly $3,500 or best offer - a steal if you consider its celebrity status and artistic aspirations. He says parting ways with his “widebody” Camry will be difficult, but he will do it because he’s found one of his old cars, and he wants it back.

For $3,500, you will get a viral star that’s “the perfect car to enjoy in nice weather.” That’s because it’s missing windows (it has only the windshield and front windows) and no roof. Now on its second engine (a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder), it comes with 303,000 miles (487,631 km) on the clock and air conditioning/heating, aftermarket coilovers, Aero Racing wheels shod in Toyo Proxies, and what could be described as license plate “artwork.” The fenders and the rear spoiler are made from license plates, and they were also used in customizing the interior.

“I don't really know how to go into detail on this thing but pictures kind of speak for themselves,” Ingram writes in the listing. “Gonna be hard to let it go but money talk.”

Pictures do speak volumes, indeed. The gallery offers you a good look at the kind of insanity $3,500 will buy you.
