This video is rather disturbing, and it could be used for educational purposes in motorcycle and road safety courses. On one hand, it shows how easily and quickly can thing go wrong even in situations when it seems like nothing could possibly happen, while on the other hand it teaches a small, yet important lesson on how to use the road.
First of all, even though it’s not exactly a big fault, we must say that this rider could have been so much better off if he stopped behind the pedestrian crossing. Maybe the truck driver would still have crashed into him, but at least, there would be absolutely nothing wrong-ish on his side, helping with the police investigation and whatever followed after this painfully dumb crash.
As for those who say that the place had something to do with the accident, we’d rather beg to differ. If you watch the video closely and observe the line of the truck as it cuts the corner, you can figure out that the impact trajectory also includes a potential position of the bike several feet behind its initial place.
Now, the guy driving the truck will definitely have to give a lot of explanations. Without necessarily looking to make a mean remark, his driving looks very much like hitting the bike on purpose. Fortunately, the truck was at least traveling at low speed, otherwise more severe consequences may have come out of this silly encounter. Even so, the insurance company will definitely not be thrilled to replace the bike’s headlight and bodywork. And pray the forks or the steering neck are still okay…
Even though such crashes occur rather rarely, this video is yet another good example of how good wearing a helmet cam can be at times. We’ve seen even nastier crashes in the former Soviet space and in Asia, with drivers fleeing the scene as if nothing had happened, and some of them have been identified and apprehended thanks to dash cam recordings.
