It really doesn’t matter how old are you, remote control cars are fun as hell, especially if they can do more than just rambling around. And we concluded this after we saw these two videos below, showing a multifunctional 6x6 RC truck doing all sort of things. We’ll warn you, this is not the average model you can pick up from a toy store...
What you’re looking here at is pure creativity and engineering as this Canadian Youtuber going by the name of Thierry decided to make his own RC models. And by the looks of it, that little truck can handle tasks even on Mars or the Moon.
We found it more than interesting and contacted the guy to find out more of the story which started with two Traxxas Summit radio controlled off-road cars. Yeah, those expensive ones with a fully working suspension and locking differentials.
He decided to make them a bit more functional so he chopped them down, created a six-wheeled chassis and mounted a self-made aluminum body on top of it. The other half of the car was used to create a snow blower module that can be attached to the front of the build.
Of course that’s not all
There’s also a normal snow plow that can be attached as well as a miniature lawn mower and a flatbed with an electrically operated ramp for other RCs to hop in, all made by Thierry using wood and aluminum. Another module consists of a Lynxmotion ADL5D robotic arm which can grab things using a claw.
The 6x6 truck is powered by two Lithium-polymer 2s batteries, summing up 7,600 mAh which can feed the Tekin RX8/1800Kv brushless motors for over three hours without feeling a loss in torque. All being controlled via a RC Tx dragonlink UHF module which offers a range between 300 to 1,500 meters (985 - 4,920 feet), depending on terrain.
Without the extras, the 6x6 truck measures 800 mm (31.5 inch) in length, 470 mm (18.5 inch) in width and 450 mm (17.7 inch) in height, while tipping the scales at 10 kg (22 lbs).
Oh, forgot about the best part... the truck actually has a cabin that houses a wide-angle rotating camera and even some working gauges so you can always see where you’re going and assess different situations.
