This Digital “Matrix Car” Has Modernized 1965 Lincoln Continental Vibes All Over It

With ten generations behind the nameplate, it’s easy to assume that Lincoln’s Continental occupies a special place in the automotive world. Both from a historical, as well as a cultural perspective.

Sure, Lincoln’s Continental may be infamous for its sad role in President Kennedy’s assassination. But it’s also pop culture relevant, among many other things. After all, instances of the series have been featured in many music videos, as well as feature films or TV shows.

For the fourth-generation, 1965 Lincoln Continental, the appearance in 1999’s “The Matrix” might easily be chief among them. It became an unforgettable “anti-hero” car that helped the filmmakers achieve that incredibly innovative, yet decaying Sci-Fi theme that made the original trilogy famous around the world.

Now that a fourth installment is being touted in theaters by the money-grabbing, idea-deprived, continuation-loving Hollywood, we have all sorts of “The Matrix Resurrections” tie-in ideas floating around. Including courtesy of the automotive world’s virtual artists, it seems.

Matteo Gentile, a pixel master better known as mattegentile on social media, has been extremely prolific in terms of wishful thinking projects as of late. And chief among them we noticed his reinterpretation of the ubiquitous “Matrix car.” That would be Lincoln’s Continental, of course. But the 1965 atmosphere is now gone.

It was replaced with a decidedly futuristic modernization of the black movie car. Perhaps it will never see the light of day, but we like its minimalist aesthetic and careful LED-contemporary touches. Hey, who knows, perhaps WB will notice this creation and make it a prop car for an upcoming fifth installment of the Matrix franchise.

Perhaps they will finally have a chance at redemption – as we heard the “Resurrections” installment was received with mixed feelings. And maybe by then, we will see a white-haired Keanu Reeves ducking it out one last time with Lawrence Fishburne (as the real Morpheus) and Hugo Weaving (as the proper Agent Smith). Who knows, it seems that even in the real world everything is possible today...
