Nature has a soothing effect on humans because you can never forget your roots no matter how deeply you are ensconced in the urban jungle. And with the help of the Terra device, you don’t even have to leave your bedroom to experience all the beautiful sounds in nature.
Terra is a small device with a mushroom-like shape and it comes with a mobile app that is compatible with iOS and Android devices. The gizmo has built-in microphones and a radio receiver for radio-tagged birds.

The device can be placed anywhere outside and captures all the sounds in that environment. You can use it to listen to the sounds in your backyard or take it with you on your outdoor trips. It can help you identify animals or birds in your area from the comfort of your bedroom.

You can also use Terra to connect with other environments around the world, from waterfalls to rainforests, beaches, and so on.

All of them are available through its companion app, which comes with other useful features as well. For instance, you can learn about different species of birds and animals, including the ones in your neighborhood, their migration patterns, how many of them flew over your yard and so much more.

Your Terra device also helps you contribute information to develop a large database that can be used by naturalists and scientists worldwide.

By connecting the device to optional sensors, Terra can track useful information about your yard, such as its soil moisture, the weather, water levels in your pond, and more.

Terra is the creation of Scott Whittle, a passionate birder, photographer, and nature enthusiast. The gizmo is currently seeking funding in a Kickstarter campaign. Assuming it reaches its goal of $266,700 you’ll be able to get a Terra unit for a pledge of at least $155. The package will include the Terra device, a power cable and AC adapter, a mounting kit, and access to the mobile app. The estimated delivery date is June 2022.
