Just when we thought things couldn’t get any weirder, they did. What we’re going to be talking about here is a mash-up of ideas. That includes everything from a café racer, e-bike, and even a treadmill.
Folks, what we’re looking at is probably one of the weirdest things anyone has ever invested time and money into producing. It’s called the Lopifit Gen 1, from, you guessed it, Lopifit. What it is exactly is hard even for me to say, and I'm paid to write. But what I can do is give you the basics of it all and you can call it whatever you want. Personally, I like tread-o-bike as the description, but that’s just me.
We can start off with the most obvious aspect of this trinket, the frame. Now, just by looking at it, you could probably say that its some sort of tandem bicycle or stand-up scooter. But once you start analyzing the situation, you realize it can’t be a bike as it has no pedals, and if it’s to be a scooter, just imagine how you have to ride it in order to make it work.
Folks, it neither of the two, but rather a mix between these two designs, and then a little extra something something. First off, it does include two bicycle wheels and even a set of handlebars that most definitely come from some sort of bicycle component manufacturer. This however is further sustained by the fact that the transmission on the Gen1 is a Shimano Nexus transmission.
But why the heck would we need a transmission of something like this? Well, that because this vehicle you see before you, is indeed electric. A 350W Bafang motor, like the one found on e-bikes, is found on the Gen1 as well, because it’s meant to offer greater distances while walking.
Walking? Yes, walking. In case you were wondering what tis EV is all about, it’s this. That platform you see, where you would normally put your feet if it were a scooter design, is actually a treadmill. That’s right, a friggin treadmill. But why? Personally, I have no idea, but the team at Lopifit states that it has this function in order to bring both the beauty of working out while enjoying more and more of your surroundings.
The Gen1 is also equipped with a battery to make all of it all work as you’re trying to figure out how to hold your balance and keep from falling over 960Wh of juice are offered by LG cells and is good to keep you busy for up to 50 miles (80km) per charge.
Now don’t go thinking that you’ll be walking at the same pace the whole time, no. This EV includes a treadmill speed range from 3mph (4.8kph) to 20mph (32kph), more than enough to satisfy the running speed of even top athletes.
Two things I found as downsides to the trinket are the fact that it weighs 120 pounds (54kg), and that the treadmill does nothing like recharge the batteries. For god’s sake, that would have been a simple enough move for any engineer to see.
I don’t know how else to put this, but if you’re an avid walker, jogger, or even runner, at one point in time you get tired of seeing the same old neighborhood, buildings, and parks. Eventually you’ll want to go further, and when you do, this is supposed to be there to feed that need. One thing is for sure, you’ll turn some heads.
