People weren’t that much into the Humvee trucks before Arnold Schwartzenegger insisted it should have a production model for civilian use. Thus the Hummer H1 came by in 1992 with its ragged looks that became an instant classic. But can you picture the Hummer or the Humvee in another shape?

The show’s presenter, John McElroy, was invited to the Chrysler proving grounds in 1981 to check out their entry for the contest. He now found out the old photos that not many people saw and decided to share them with the world.
We have to admit that Chrysler’s concept for the military looks like it was built for the 2000s, because there are military vehicles now that resemble some of its edgy, stealthy shapes. Their concept was actually a two-door pickup truck, with very small overhangs, flat body panels and a more slanted flat windshield that what the Humvee got.
The futuristic design actually came from the fact the company needed a vehicle that could be manufactured fast and cheap, thus the designers went for flat and angular body panels.
Despite it’s cool looks, the army was searching for something that could carry more than that, and chose AM General’s project instead, which ultimately become the Humvee you know today. However, check out the video bellow for more info; just skip to 3:35 to get over the other subjects.
