This Chevy Impala SS Sleeper Sedan Has Only 15,000 Miles On the Clock

The British call it Q-car but over in North America, a sleeper combines high performance with an unassuming exterior. At first glance, the seventh generation of the Impala is as boring as full-size sedans get. However, don’t forget that the Impala SS packs the 5.7-liter V8 engine from the Corvette and rear-wheel-drive.

Made from 1994 to 1996 at the Arlington Assembly Plant in Texas, the B-body Impala SS started out as a concept at the 1992 Detroit Auto Show. Almost identical to the one-off work of automotive wonder, the series-production model leverages the 9C1 police package from the Caprice. The question is, what does 9C1 mean?

Well, the suspension is sportier thanks to upgraded shock absorbers and springs. The cooling system has a few similarities to that of the LT1 engine in the Corvette, a transmission cooler is also featured, disc brakes provide the stopping power for all four wheels, and the exhaust system comes full circle with the help of two pipes.

A little under 70,000 examples of the breed were made, and this fellow here is an unmolested survivor with a little over 15,000 miles (24,140 kilometers) on the odometer. Chassis 1G1BL52PXSR152253 is currently valued at $18,000 on Bring a Trailer but there are three more days of bidding to go until the auction ends.

In addition to being clean inside and out, the 1995 model before your eyes is complemented by the SS Preferred Equipment Group that includes six-way power adjustments for the front seats. Keyless entry, a CD stereo, and 17-inch brushed aluminum wheels with BF Goodrich Comp T/A tires are also worthy of note.

Gray perforated leather trims the cabin, and the headrests feature the SS logo to bring the point home. The window sticker is included in the sale, showing an MSRP of $24,840 including destination charge. That’s $41,790 in today’s money, which is a little more than the starting price of the Chevrolet SS for the 2017 model year.

Both the SS sports sedan and the Chevrolet Caprice PPV were discontinued three years ago. Holden stopped production in Australia, and with it, the big and rear-wheel-drive Australian sedan was consigned to the history books. At the present moment, General Motors doesn’t offer a full-size sedan with RWD in America even though a few Cadillac CT6s are sitting idly in dealership lots.
