Among the Camaro special editions, an SS incarnation of the 2011 convertible occupies a special place. Made in limited numbers as a means to celebrate both Chevy’s 100th anniversary and be a nod to the historic 1969 Camaro Indy pace car, this special version is now one of the most coveted Camaros in the world.
And it should, as the 1969 car it honors is one of the most valued of the family, and replicas of it have been selling for big bucks at events across the U.S. for years. The car is so famous that GM itself joined the fun nearly a decade ago and announced it will be giving 500 units of the 2011 Camaro SS convertible special clothing, and then unleash them onto the world.

One of those original 500 units is now for sale as part of the Barrett-Jackson online auction that will be held later in May. It’s not the first to go down this path, and it will probably not be the last, but it is one with very few miles on it: just 5,150.

As all Camaros of its breed, this one too comes in Summit White exterior contrasted by orange stripes and door graphics, reminiscent of the ones on the 1969 pace car. The car is fitted with the 2SS equipment package, and inside, it has been specced with orange leather, white door panels and instrument panel, and the Indy 500 logo on the front seat headrests.

Like all the others of its lineup, the car hides the stock 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine under the hood, linked to a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shift, and developing 426 horsepower.

As most cars part of this auction, the Camaro sells with reserve, but there is no estimate as to how much it could fetch. If past experience is any indication, it could easily go for a six-figure sum.
