This Chevrolet Monster Truck Was a Fire Chief’s Ride, Still Needs Some Work

Ever since the 1970s, strange vehicles riding on massive tires and with the body sitting high above ground level have begun surfacing. They’re called monster trucks, and we’re used to seeing them taking part in mud bogging and other various events dedicated to these insane machines.

Building a monster truck is not for everyone, of course, as generally speaking, they have to follow some rules for succeeding in their mission at whatever competition. But that doesn’t mean regular people don’t get to have a try, and we’ve seen such builds coming out nondescript garages on more than one occasion.

We reckon the thing we have here kind of falls in that category. It’s a Chevrolet pickup truck by original design - one that back when it was in its original configuration was allegedly used by a fire chief; the livery on it certainly comes to support that claim. Somehow, it ended up in the hands of an imaginative custom builder, who turned it into this thing here.

The truck is for sale, going from the hands of Racing Junk for $30,000. Unfortunately, with the exception of just a few details, we’re not told exactly what this truck really brings to the table.

We do know the power for it comes from a 454ci (7.4-liter) engine, which works thanks to a turbo 400 transmission. Both have been rebuilt, all the way back in 2008, and apparently, they still run, allowing the “like new” tires to spin along.

But that doesn’t mean the truck should be driven anywhere, as some work will still be left for the new owner. As per the sales ad, the front axle shafts and ring and pinion still need to be installed. Luckily, they are provided with the car, so whoever goes for this will not have to waste time locating the proper parts.
