If you’re in the market for a solid project car with an interesting history, here’s an Impala that certainly stands out from the crowd.
Because this Chevrolet not only was originally a service car at Lamporte Funeral in Hamilton, Illinois, but it also doubled as an ambulance because why not.
At least, that’s what the owner of the car explains in a post on eBay, where they’re trying to sell the 1968 Impala to someone who’d want to fully restore it.
Originally a 327 Impala, the car now comes without an engine, so whoever plans to restore it can very well upgrade the car to a bigger one for a well-done restomod.
“This probably hauled flowers, people, etc., and also doubled as an Ambulance when needed as that is how they were used in small towns back then. [The] car was sold to a local person and the engine had a block failure and could not be rebuilt,” the owner explains in the eBay ad.
Other than the passenger door panel missing, the car's body is nearly complete, they say, and this can only be good news for a future restoration project. And what’s more, it also comes with a series of extras that were originally used on the Impala, including a factory light on the driver fender, as well as a siren (for the ambulance mode) installed on the inner fender.
There’s obviously some rust here and there, but judging from the photos that you can also see here, it should be rather easy to fix as part of a thorough restoration. The paint is original, they say, and so is the interior.
As for how much this Impala costs, it can be yours today for $5,950, but the owner has also enabled the “Make Offer” button, so make sure you reach out to them if you’re interested in another deal. The car is parked in Iowa should you want to check it out in person.
