This Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Thinks It Is “The Boss”

The vanity plate adorning the front fascia of the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 above sends out a clear message. This Chevy thinks it runs the business. “Well ain’t that cute... but it’s wrong!” we hear the 2015 Dodge Challenger scream in the background.

Now that the 2015 Challenger line-up has fully revealed its potential, the Camaro ZL1 isn’t exactly happy. Think about it, the Mopar vehicle has the Chevy “surrounded”. At 550 supercharged ponies, the Camaro ZL1 sits between the 2015 Challenger SRT8 392 Scat Pack’s 470 naturally-aspirated hp and the Hellcat’s monstrous 707 supercharged hp.

The Mustang is also prepared to pull a similar scheme to that of the Dodge. First of all, Blue Oval engineers are currently working overtime to complete the development of the new Mustang Shelby GT500.

As we previously reported, the Shelby ‘Stang could be up to 1,000 lbs ligther compared to the Hellcar (this is not a typo), so a muscle bump over its current 662 hp level isn’t mandatory. Then again, this car does all sorts of stuff that’s not mandatory, so we wouldn’t be surprised if it jumped over the Challenger’s 707 hp.

Moreover, Ford’s SVT crew is also working on what should be labeled as the Shelby GT350, something that’s more likely to play in the ZL1’s power league.

Fret not Camaro fans, this Chrysler and Ford dominance won’t last for long. Late 2015 should see GM come up with a new generation of the Camaro and we’re pretty sure the bow tie people are working on something for the new wave of the muscle car power war. The story gets more complicated here, since, at least for the moment, Chevrolet has focused its high-horsepower efforts on the Corvette, givign us the 650 hp Z06. Since the Z06 jumped the supercharged badnwagon, it is unclear whether GM will come up with a new incarnation of the range-topping ZR1, but that would also make room for a Camaro with more than 600 horses.
