You can't talk about the Ford GT40 MKI without mentioning the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The MKI GT40 holds a record title, winning 1966 through 1969 races. In that regard, the GT40 is genuinely a phenomenal race car to own. Sean of Autotopia LA featured an insane-sounding twin-turbo Ford GT40 MKI restomod at V'S Performance in Orange, California.
Ferrari dominated 24 Hours of Le Mans races for six years between 1960 and 1965, and Ford desperately needed to grab Ferrari by the shirt, especially after an embarrassing failed attempt to acquire the Italian luxury car brand. The MKI GT40 delivered that glorious moment for the Blue Oval – for four years in a row (1966-1969).

Doug Campbell knew he always wanted a Ford GT40 when he first got behind the wheel of one working for Superformance.

"I already built it in my head in a completely different car. I like doing things differently," Doug confessed.

Doug's MKI GT40 is unlike anything you've seen on the tracks. After watching the GT40s at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2017, he came up with the brilliant idea to use that year's livery on an MKI GT40.

He went the whole nine yards on the MKI with updated aero, wheels, custom lights, and drivetrain. With the 2017 GT Le Mans car in mind, he used a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost powerplant from a Ford F-150 truck. For some race-inspired tail-pipe melody, he got a custom fabricated exhaust by Rich Waitas of MagnaFlow.

"It's making just about 500 wheels on 93 octane, which is perfect if I ever want to go and do a top speed run, or if i want to do something crazy, I can swap it over to e85 and up the boost, and then you know, get close to 700," Doug revealed.

Doug's restomod GT40 comes with air suspension on the front for drivability. He also put a set of HRE wheels (18-inches on the front and 19-inches at the back). For aesthetic purposes, he installed an APR GT wing to capture the look of the modern Ford GT.

We recommend watching the video below for some of that EcoBoost purr. The turbo hisses at the end of each pull are to die for.
