When it comes to the JDM hall of fame, nothing makes the blood boil more than two letters followed by two digits: AE-freaking-86. Blame the Initial D anime series or the JDM scene, but one thing is certain – a pristine condition AE86 Trueno is tough to find. This one isn't pristine, but it's cheap and cool.
Listed on Craigslist at $6,685, the Japanese sports car in the adjacent photo gallery is a 1984 Toyota Corolla SR5 with a GT-S AE86 (Bluetop) swap. That's right – there's a DOHC 4A-GE under the hood of this baby, not the less desirable SOHC 4A-C carbureted motor.
When it was new, this car weighed approximately 2,200 lbs (998 kg). Low weight, a RWD chassis, and a 1.6-liter engine that churns out 112 hp and 97 lb-ft (132 Nm) are a classic recipe for sideways fun. The T50 manual transmission is another highlight of the SR5's appeal. However, this isn't your ordinary SR5.
Modifications brought to this example of the breed include fully adjustable coilover suspension front and rear, a front strut bar, Godspeed front and rear sway bars and lateral links, an exhaust system made by Magna Flow, Rota 15x8 TE37 wheels, Brembo drilled brake rotors, stainless steel brake hoses, Hella fog lights, and Recaro Classic reclinable front seats. That's a long list of mods you would've done too, isn't it?
The asking price includes a recently installed starter ($180), brand new driver side window regulator ($150), an NRG steering wheel, T3 short throw shifter, and a piece of paper that reads "vehicle passed smog check on 7/6/2015." At the end of the day, this isn't the AE86 from Initial D, but it's just what a first-time AE86 owner should get to understand the appeal of Hachi-Roku – the predecessor of the Toyota GT86.
According to the owner, this AE86 sale comes with a complete interior (including the rear seats and trim).
