When the Army experiments with new navy warships the last thing you’d expect is to find an actual vessel on sale. But the big surprise with the watercraft you see in the picture above is not even that, the ridiculously low price it’s selling for really is.
Meet the Sea Slice, a high-speed derivative of the Small Water Plane Area Twin Hull (SWATH) ship hull form. The experimental United States Navy vessel was built by Lockheed Martin and is characterized by four teardrop-shaped submerged hulls - double the number seen on most previous designs.

The US Navy says its design was meant to reduce waves and drag and advantage that allows a SWATH vessel to “...operate at higher speeds while retaining their characteristic low motions in a seaway.” This big fellow is powered by not one, but two MTU TB93 Diesel Engines rated at 3480 horsepower each and also packs two Caterpillar 3606 diesel driven electrical generators rated at 180 kilowatts each.

In specs, we’re looking at a war machine capable of a cruising speed of 23 knots, while its max is 30 knots. Want to throw a party? Good, there’s enough room for a big wedding since seating capacity is 149. The ship also comes with 5 cabins and pretty much anything a rich Russian magnate would need to become the coolest yacht owner at sea.

But like we said, what is truly amazing about this experimental vessel that the Navy has created in 1996 is the price it’s allegedly selling for online. According to the the ad the San Diego, California owner enlisted, the Sea Slice is priced at $180,000, which is pretty much what a new Mercedes-Maybach would cost said you’d buy it right now.

We call it a prank, but we have to admit there’s not a lot we know about US Navy warships, so maybe it’s not.
