Back in the 1960s, the suits at General Motors told Chevrolet that it can’t install engines with more than 400 cubic inches of displacement in mid-size and smaller passenger cars. As fate would have it, the higher-ups eventually gave in to the wishes of the dealerships as well as the demands of drag racing enthusiasts from all across the country.

The peeps at Chevrolet came up with the Central Office Production Order or COPO for short, translating to the 427-cu.in. leviathan lurking under the hood of the 1969 Camaro. Two big fellows were utilized that year, starting with the L72 that Don Yenko needed for the Yenko Camaro. The latter is called ZL-1, an all-aluminum engine capable of more than 500 horsepower that General Motors designed specifically for drag racing.

Fast-forward to the Camaro Gen 6 and the COPO Camaro from the 2019 model year, and this time around, we’re dealing with a 427-cu.in. LSX that cranks out enough ponies and torques to put up a good fight at the drag strip. The car before you is the “one-of-one Berger Chevrolet 2019 Camaro 427 COPO #55,” a 50th Anniversary COPO with no miles on the clock, stickers on the wheels, and plastic on the steering wheel.

Ordered with the blue package and the racer package, the car “is brand-new, still in the wrapper, never raced, never drove, just unloaded out of the enclosed shipper and backed into the showroom.” Choice Auto & Truck Sales is the dealership that’s selling it, and the price will leave you a little speechless. To the point, it’s listed at $147,500.

As you would expect from a drag racer, 2019COPO055 is outfitted with a parachute, dual batteries, and a weight box. Chevrolet also made a supercharged version of the 2019 model year COPO Camaro, featuring the LSX-based 350 engine with a thumpin’ great Magnuson blower on top and LSX-SC cylinder heads to bring the point home.

The most special of drag-racing ‘Maro in recent memory, however, is the eCOPO Camaro one-off that combines two electric motors for a grand total of more than 700 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque.
