James May did a show a while back, talking about the iconic cars of the 20th century. Amongst them was a little car called the Fiat 124 that marked a lot of Soviet countries not directly but through its shape.
That’s because it inspired the creation of the Lada, a Russian car that was also known as VAZ-2101. Yeah, a rather stupid name but it got the job done. The Eastern part of Europe would come to know this car very well as it was sold by the millions. Literally. As a matter of fact, over 17 million of them were ever made, being the second largest production volume for a car in the automotive industry’s history.

That doesn’t mean it was a good car though but it was just affordable and easy to run. The lowest price tag made it so that every worker in the Communist party could buy one and that’s where the staggering numbers come from.

However, some people actually loved it and one of them decided it was worth a little TLC. Therefore, he swapped what he didn’t like about it with some proper parts and kept the body intact.

His creation wears a lot of parts from the famous Nissan S13 and S14 models including an engine, transmission and rear differential (we guess). As a matter of fact, the engine received a Garrett GT2871R turbo along with Tomei camshafts, Nismo injectors, and new throttle bodies. The output is around 400 HP at 1.4 bar which, combined with the low weight of this thing, makes for a pretty fast ride.

The quarter mile is done in 12.34 seconds with a trap speed of nearly 200 km/h (124 mph) while the 100 km/h (62 mph) benchmark is reached in 4.6 seconds.

The exhaust is custom made and 80 mm (3 inches) in diameter, the rear coil overs are HKS Hipermax while the front ones come from Stillway. The entire braking system was taken off the Nissans as well to make sure you also get to stop in time, not just accelerate.

Now, you might say that this is not the great car the owner thinks it is but your opinion wouldn’t matter all that much. That’s because no matter what you think, this is a cool project that will surely make a lot of victims on the highway due to its sleeper look. Check out what happened to the Porsche in the video below...
