This 220-Pounds Aurus Car Replica Was Made With A Milling-Machine in One Week

We can’t guess how many people are actually impressed by Russia’s Aurus Senat (depends on how you look at it), but the idea of creating an Aurus replica, using only a milling machine, is pretty cool. And it wasn’t just for fun, but a serious project meant to demonstrate the abilities of an innovative milling machine.

It’s been quite a while since the first rumors about the Aurus line of cars came out. President Vladimir Putin sure took center stage when he first drove the Aurus limousine, back in 2018, but the “luxury sedan” concept didn’t have the impact that perhaps the Russian President hoped it would. At least, not internationally. Because in its own country, this new car is praised, as most Russian-made things are.

What better car model to choose for creating a replica? We’re talking about a Russian company, after all, one that is named STAN and that is the proud creator of the only 5-axis, numerically controlled, milling machine in the country. And, in order to prove its unique abilities, the RFP-6S was put to work, with the objective of creating an Aurus replica, at a 1:16 scale.

Specialists at STAN teamed up with the giant Rostec corporation, to develop a multi-staged algorithm that would be used to process a plastic block and turn it into the final product. This milling machine was made to process plastics, aluminum alloys, and composite materials with high precision, and thanks to its 5 axes, it has the ability to turn materials into components with complex shapes, in one milling session.

But it took more than that to recreate the infamous car. The RFP-6S milling machine worked tirelessly for one week, until the final, 220 lbs. (100 kg) model was ready. And it does look impressive. This helped demonstrate how the machine can create complex parts with speed and precision.

And, according to the manufacturer, this will reduce the processing time by 40%, which also means lower costs.
