Gone are the times when you had to go to real trouble to get your hands on a Ford GT. The car has been out for long enough so that the two-year sale ban for owners has pretty much expired, and there’s nothing the Blue Oval can do now to prevent the cars from ending up in whatever hands.
You might remember Ford had a very tough vetting process when it came to taking orders for the GT. It required people to prove a lot of things about themselves and (unofficially) gave priority to those who could bring the most exposure for the carmaker and its product.

All, Ford said, as a means to ensure the GT gets in the hands of those who will actually use it, “truly celebrating its innovation and technology.”

Scott Dixon, winner of the IndyCar six times from 2003 to last year, is one of those who passed Ford’s requirements - after all, as part of the Ford Chip Ganassi Racing, he drove one in the GTLM class of Le Mans. He chose a loaded one with the carbon fiber package ($70,000 worth of that), and probably Ford thought it hit the jackpot with this one.

Only that, despite going to great lengths to secure GT chassis 009 (09 is Dixon’s IndyCar racing number), the race driver did not use the car as much. In fact, since he got possession of it in 2019, the man drove for just 44 miles (70 km). Talk about “celebrating its innovation and technology.”

Given how he barely used it, and Ford is not likely to give him heat for selling it, Dixon passed the car to Canepa, which is now charged with finding a new owner for it.

We are not being told how much the dealer is asking for the car, but given how the thing is practically new and who used to own it, don’t expect it to come cheap.
