Some people know it as the rally car that won the World Rally Championship three years in a row back in the 70s, but the legendary Lancia Stratos is a lot more than that. At least it's what this car enthusiast thought, who loves the Italian car so much he built a scale radio controlled model with actual blocks of Lego.
The Lego builder has recently uploaded a video with his latest creation in action. The 800g (1.8 lbs) RC car is a small toy that comes with front independent suspensions and a lot of power. His creator claims it’s using 2 RC motors and 2 RC Lipo batteries, which basically makes it an overpowered vehicle that, according to its maker, “drifts as soon as you touch the ‘throttle’, and that is pretty funny”.
As to the actual car, you probably remember that the Stratos was a very successful rally car during the 1970s and early 1980s. One of the features that make it special, is the fact it was the first car designed from scratch for this kind of competition. Getting to drive an actual Lancia Stratos on track is asking too much, but we’d totally like a Lego RC scale model to play with whenever we feel like driving a rally car.
It has weigh distribution
The Lego builder even used weigh distribution, as one of the two batteries is placed under the hood, in order to make the rear axle lighter. This actually causes drift. Measuring 31.5cm (12.2 in) x 14cm (5.5 in) x 10cm (4 in), the RC Lancia Stratos' doors, bonnet and front lights are openable. As to the actual car, you probably remember that the Stratos was a very successful rally car during the 1970s and early 1980s.
