This 1970 Barracuda Barn Find Was Born as a 340, Now Flexes a 440

For many people out there, a Barracuda with the right upgrades is the kind of car that begs for the strip, and the original owner of this 1970 model certainly thought so.

That is why the car was eventually turned into a drag racer, getting a new engine and a series of other upgrades that got it ready for the battle. But first things first.

As explained by eBay seller adam5813905, who is now trying to find someone to take the car home, the Barracuda was born in Charleston, Illinois, where it was purchased by the first owner with a 340 (5.6-liter) V8 engine under the hood and paired with a Borg Warner 4-speed transmission.

The man, however, wanted a little bit more action, so he converted the Barracuda into a drag racer by replacing the 340 with a heftier 440 (7.2-liter) V8 engine. This allowed him to compete in a series of local and regional NHRA events, though no specifics as to whether any notable achievements were obtained or not have been provided.

What we do know, however, is that the car ended up in storage back in the ‘80s, and this is where it spent its next decades until 2018, when it was discovered by the aforementioned eBay user now trying to sell it.

The Barracuda comes with a headliner in tip-top shape, a dash without any cracks, new metal that would have to be installed by the new owner, but also some rust here and there and seats requiring major fixes.

As for the engine, it has already been taken apart, and it can be rebuilt by the new owner.

The car is getting quite a lot of love on eBay these days, with the top bid already at $15,800. If you don’t want to fight others for it, however, you can always buy the car outright for $30,000.
