The Pontiac GTO is the kind of car that deserves to be parked in a heated garage and taken out for a spin only during calm, sunny days when there’s zero chance of rain.
Unfortunately, we still come across GTOs full of rust every once in a while, and the model we’re going to highlight today is one that will hopefully receive a second chance before it’s too late.
What you’re looking at here is a 1967 GTO that’s been having quite a hard time dealing with the invasion of rust, with eBay user snootycash now listing the car for auction online, hoping to find someone who’d bring it back on the road.
By the looks of things, there’s a lot of people thinking this GTO can actually be saved, as the auction has already received 24 bids, with the top right now set at $2,000. Mind you, the car is only sold in the States.
What’s good and bad about this GTO?
The photos pretty much speak for themselves, and it’s pretty clear that rust has taken its toll on this one. The frame is said to be in good condition, but without a doubt, it’ll take quite an effort to bring this GTO back to tip-top shape. That's not only due to the amount of rust but also because some parts are missing.
There’s no engine going with this GTO, as you can tell from the photos, but this leaves the door open for other projects, including a restomod if you think another engine would fit this Pontiac.
Back in 1967, the GTO was sold in three body styles, namely hardtop, convertible, and sports coupe. Of course, the hardtop was the most popular with over 65,000 units getting to see the daylight. The convertible was less common, as the production included a little over 9,500 units, while only some 7,000 sports coupes were made for MY1967.
So overall, if you believe this Pontiac can be restored, it can eventually become one of the few 1967 GTOs still around these days. But without a doubt, saving it won’t be easy.
