Despite the Batfleck controversy of recent years, Batman remains one of the most enduring and popular superheroes of all time. Unsurprisingly, his Batmobile is among the most iconic and instantly recognizable movie cars – with Tim Burton’s version being arguably the most beloved one.
Tim Burton’s Batmobile, also referred to as the Keaton Mobile, is perhaps the most popular and influential Batman vehicle in the character’s history. According to Burton himself, when he set out to create it for the 1989 film, he had no idea it would prove to be one of the most difficult challenges. This probably explains why it came out looking so awesome.

Based on a design by conceptual illustrator Julian Caldow and a body by Keith Short and Eddie Butler, this version of the Batmobile was famously sitting on the chassis of a Chevrolet Impala and had functional gadgets. The one that’s coming up for auction is based on a 1965 Ford, but it’s still as visually striking and, as far as replicas go, a very convincing one.

Chassis no. 5Y85Z147490 will be crossing the auction block at the MPH March Auction from Bonhams, which will take place in March 2021, as the event’s name implies. No details about the build have yet been made public, except for a note that says that it will be selling at no reserve, and is expected to fetch between £20,000 and £30,000 ($27,000 and $40,500 at today’s exchange rate).

Bonhams has released photos of the replica, and you can see them in the gallery attached. On the outside at least, it seems whoever did the conversion did a solid job, but the jury is out until interior photos are released.

The listing clearly says that this is a recreation, which is hardly surprising. As any Batman fan must know, there are only two real movie Batmobiles in existence, with one being at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles and the other in a private collection. This being one of the most replicated Batmobiles in history, some of the replicas can exchange hands for a pretty penny, depending on the amount of detail and work involved.

From this perspective, this one could be a less costly entry into the Batman club for a true fan.
