1958 was the year that brought us the very first Impala, though, in the beginning, it was only offered as a top-of-the-range version of Chevrolet Bel Air hardtops and convertibles.
A year later, Chevrolet rolled out the second-generation Impala and turned it into a stand-alone series, thus paving the way for a model which in 1965 set a new sales record with more than 1 million units shipped in the United States alone.
There’s no doubt the ’58 Bel Air Impala was quite a looker, and you don’t just have to trust us on this, as the example we bring you today is a beautifully-preserved icon coming with a series of upgrades under the hood and inside.
The 1958 Impala sold by Gateway Classic Cars shines like a diamond thanks to the bright white finish; while we’re not told if this is the original paint or not, there’s a good chance it isn't. Especially because the car has already received a restomod treatment, so a repaint was most likely included, too.
The interior has been customized with a Dakota Digital dash, a retrofitted digital radio, as well as a new combination of vinyl and cloth that looks exactly like the one used by Chevrolet when it built the car.
But the real magic happens under the hood, where the power now comes from a 5.3-liter V8 Vortec engine paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The 5.3-liter V8 Vortec was used by General Motors on a series of SUVs, including Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, as well as the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, so it’s quite a massive upgrade for a ’58 Impala.
Of course, everything runs just properly, so the upgraded Chevy Impala is ready to be driven to its new home on its wheels. On the other hand, don’t imagine you can have it at a low price, as the car is listed by the said garage for $78,000.
