Think G4 Plug and Play Controller Launched

Norwegian electric vehicle manufacturer Think announced the launch of the fourth generation EV drive train plug and play technology during the Automotive News Europe Congress in Spain.

Dubbed G4, the technology comprises the power electronics system and the motor which drives the car. This means G4 is in fact the charger, DC-DC converter, inverter and vehicle control module.

“The introduction of THINK G4 is yet another large step in the development of our company. We are already making great progress around the world with the roll-out of the THINK City EV into key markets; now we are turning to the upstream side of the industry by offering our leading fourth generation EV drive-train solution in the business to business sector,” Richard Canny, Think CEO said at the congress.

Unlike its previous versions, the G4 provides, according to Think, enhanced technical safety, improved real world vehicle range, efficiency gains and manufacturing cost reduction.
The interesting thing is that the Norwegian manufacturer is willing to offer the G4 to other vehicle manufacturers as well. Fleet operators which use electric vehicles or just want to convert their existing ones into EVs are also targeted by Think's sales division.

"THINK G4 offers efficiency, cost and durability gains never seen before in this industry. Thanks to the technology’s flexibility, a range of batteries and motors can be used to power the system, an unlimited array of body styles become a reality, and entirely customized solutions are made available for the first time," Canny added.

The G4 is currently being fitted into Think City EVs rolling off Valmet Automotive 's assembly lines in Finland.
