Think City Gets CARB Certification

Another major victory for perhaps the less famous EVs on the market was registered today in California, where the Norwegian Think City EV received the certification from the California Air Resources Board (CARB).

This means that the vehicle will get the green light to be sold in California, 12 other states and the District of Columbia, where the CARB regulations apply. There has been no official launch date announced, apart from “soon,” are loosely translated the middle of next year. Rumors place the price tag for the model at around $34,000 before incentives.

"CARB certification is critical for fleet sales, not just in California, but in the other CARB states as well,"
said Tink spokesperson Brendan Prebo. "These states make up more than 35 percent of the automobile market in the U.S. and represent a significant share of the fleet market."

The Think electric vehicle is being or will be produced both in Europe and in the US. The States side production will take place at the carmaker's new assembly plant in Elkhart, Indiana.

The electric power train on it allows it to achieve a top speed of only 100 km/hour (62 mph) and sprint from naught to 62 mph in 6.5 seconds. During summer and with the heater off, Think can travel in between 170 km (105 miles) and 203 km (126 miles).

Last week, word of the first ever recall for the Think and the electric vehicle as a market segment was made public. According to initial information, 850 units of the Think are being recalled by its manufacturer due to a brake problem.
