Here's one for all those who believe that stealing something, anything, does not require any bit of prior preparation and study of the target...
Back in June this year, Caroline Lyons got her Audi A4 stolen in Ramsgate, Kent. The thief is Daniel Boxall, who first stole the woman car keys and them climbed on board of the Audi. He drove off together with his friend, Richard Lloyd, only to realize a few miles later they are running out of gas.
Boxall drove into a gas station, opened the fuel cap (on the inside of which, so that you know, big letters spell DIESEL) and filled it up with petrol.
The dumb and dumber couple managed to drive the car for a few more yards, before the car choked on its own liquids. Scared, Boxall waved at passing motorists, managed to stop one and offered to sell him the Audi for 100 GBP ($153, EUR118).
Of course, the other motorist became suspicious when hearing the Audi is up for grabs for only that much. Boxall tried to calm him down by saying he is going to get a Porsche the next day anyway, so he wouldn't be needing the Audi. The motorist however was still suspicious, so he called the police.
Boxall was sentenced this week to 180 days in prison, got his license suspended for 18 months and a 12-month driving ban.
The car is, according to The Telegraph, pretty much done. According to the source, the court told Boxall the following:
"You have a shocking record. This was a mean offence and the car was destroyed by stupidity which caused loss and distress to that lady."
