Mixing a mindless rider and the traditionally crazed Taiwan traffic is the short and sure way for disaster, and the video after the jump is yet one more proof that things do go very wrong when motorists fail to obey the basic road regulations.
Now, the main culprit in this accident is the scooter rider, and by a long shot. We’ve seen a lot of such riders changing lanes without checking, but watching this fellow cut across three lanes at a time was something really crazy. It’s still puzzling seeing such maneuvers and thinking about what was going on in their minds is only making things worse.
Truth be told, the blue car was approaching s tad too fast, as well, so the chances of stopping in time in case of emergency were also on the low side. Still, it would be very hard to find the driver at fault for this event, especially as the scooter also cut across a double line.
On the funny side, in case we could find such a crash funny in a way, is the exceptional shoe toss, at least 25 feet high, judging by the time it takes to fall back to the ground. And this should be a good measure of how violent the impact was… in an accident which was extremely easy to avoid.
