These Five Epic Lego Car Sets Make Creative Christmas Gifts for Gearheads

Giving someone a Lego set is never a bad idea; they are truly smart toys for kids of all ages. The difficult part is choosing the right one since there are so many of them. Well, if the person you are buying it for loves cars, these are probably the five best options.

For me, Lego means much more than a toy; it helped fuel and shape my creativity from an early age. As I got older, the joy of building a set hasn’t faded one bit, especially since discovering the Technic and Creator car-themed sets.

Many car enthusiasts love the Fast and Furious franchise - even those who don’t admit it probably do secretly. One of the most epic cars to ever feature in the franchise has to be Dom’s 1970 Dodge Charger R/T.

It was raced, destroyed, and rebuilt throughout its acting career and now comes in Lego form fully equipped with a working V8, suspension, steering, and a couple of nitrous tanks in the trunk.

The set has 1,077 high-quality pieces, comes with printed instructions, and should take at least three hours to build. The Lego Dodge Charger is 15.3-in (39-cm) long and includes a retractable stand to recreate that iconic scene. It fully deserves the $100 price tag, compared to similar sets.

One of the most iconic cars in history is now available with GT stripes as one of the most popular car-themed Lego models out there and the perfect gift for the pony car enthusiast.

Both the exterior and interior are faithfully recreated, and the latter can be viewed better thanks to the removable roof. The doors, trunk, and hood also open, revealing more awesome details like the beautiful V8.

The car can also be turned into a drag monster with extra parts like a supercharger, ducktail spoiler, nitrous tank, and beefy side exhausts. In terms of size, it is about 13 inches (34 cm) long and is made from 1,471 Lego pieces. The extra details will cost you more than the Charger, but the set still deserves $150.

If the person you’re buying a set for is a motorsport fan, this might be the perfect gift. Lego partnered up with Porsche to create this accurate replica of the 911 RSR race machine, and the result is amazing.

Made from 1,580 pieces, it captures every important detail of the actual car like the aerodynamic mirrors, extended rear diffuser, and rear wing with ‘swan neck’ mounts. It also features the iconic six-cylinder boxer engine with moving pistons, working differential, steering column, and suspension.

The $150 set will take some time to complete, mainly because the bags that contain the pieces are not numbered, and the multitude of stickers take time and patience to be fitted correctly. Following the detailed instructions, the finished 19-inch (50-cm) Porsche 911 RSR will be worth every minute of the assembly time, though.

Bugatti Chiron – Technic

Just like the real car, this advanced set oozes innovation, speed, and elegance. It contains 3,599 pieces that fortunately come in separate boxes corresponding to each stage of the build. This set will allow your loved one to build the Chiron following the same steps as Bugatti engineers since the printed instructions mirror the actual assembly process.

The spectacular 1:8 replica manages to capture every small detail of the actual hypercar, like the detailed W16 engine which has moving pistons, the 8-speed functional gearbox with movable paddle shifters, or the active rear wing, which can be lifted using a replica top speed key.

Located beneath the hood of the 22-inch (56-cm) Chiron are a unique serial number and a stylish Bugatti overnight bag faithfully recreated with Lego pieces. The brilliant set is not cheap at around $350, but it is worth every penny.

Joining the Chiron in Lego’s advanced hypercar-themed Technic lineup, this set is equally epic, containing 3,696 individual pieces that include actual replicas of the car’s beautiful golden rims.

The stunning lime green replica comprises authentic features such as a highly detailed V12 engine with moving pistons, functional front and rear suspension, or a fully functional 4-wheel drive system.

Just like the full-size Sian, the 23-inch (60-cm) model has classic scissor opening doors that reveal a detailed interior with matching lime green trims and the functional paddle shifters which operate the 8-speed transmission.

The Lamborghini-licensed set includes an exclusive book with building instructions, images, and behind-the-scenes interviews and costs around $380.

Regardless of which one you choose, you will be making a car enthusiast very happy. Furthermore, these sets can also be built with friends or family delivering an unforgettable experience.

You might have a hard time finding these on the official Lego store this time of the year, but thankfully Lego sets are available in countless toy stores or online, on Amazon, Walmart, or eBay.
