GasBuddy has analyzed data collected from its mobile app to determine the top 10 cities with the most aggressive drivers during the holiday season in the United States, and Los Angeles is topping the charts this time.
GasBuddy says it analyzed information like rapid acceleration, hard braking, and speeding, and it determined that drivers in Los Angeles are the most aggressive, followed by those in San Diego.

Drivers in Sacramento, California “finished” third, just ahead of motorists in Memphis, Tennessee.

Interestingly, Los Angeles has recorded quite a jump in the charts, as it was previously ranked sixth in the 2019 analysis. Atlanta, Nashville, and Birmingham took the podium last year.

California issuing another round of stay-at-home orders immediately ahead of Thanksgiving on Nov. 19 could have been the catalyst for the highest percent of Grinch-style aggressive driving occurring in the country,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

When we are anxious and stressed, it surfaces in a multitude of ways including how we drive. Given how this year is going, it’s likely we’ll also see a higher level of aggressive driving ahead of Christmas.

In case you’re wondering how GasBuddy determined what city has the most aggressive drivers, it’s all powered by the Drives feature of its official app.

Thanks to this optional feature bundled with the GasBuddy app, drivers can see a series of statistics that eventually generate a rating of poor, good, or great for how fuel efficiently they handle the car. They’re also provided with a savings score between 0 and 100, and this score tracks certain habits, such as gentle braking and sudden acceleration.

All this data was used by GasBuddy to determine the regions where drivers are typically more aggressive behind the wheel, and the company examined the top 50 metropolitan areas by population.
