These are Opel’s Emergency Vehicles for 2014

Emergency. This is the word that defines Opel’s latest efforts, with the carmaker introducing a three-vehicle effort to deal with such situations. It all starts with the Insignia Country Tourer - we’ve never had any special feelings for the Insignia, but we have to admit it looks rather good in its new emergency medical / fire brigade uniform.

Speaking of the livery, the Insignia is dressed in a luminous apparel, also wearing a long list of warning lights. We are talking about an Insignia Country Tourer powered by the BiTurbo diesel engine and all-wheel drive. This means the drive has 195 hp and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque to reach the emergency location.

Climbing aboard, we find a 230-volt electrical system, as well as various preparation measures for analog and digital radio, as well as accident data storage. The controls for the signals that give you priority in traffic are on the house.

Like we said, the Insignia can be had in two flavors: a fire brigade command vehicle or an emergency medical vehicle.

Moving into the LCV (light commercial vehicle) area, we’ll talk about a pair of coach-built incarnations of the Vivaro and Movano vans. With the first, things are pretty simple - the vehicle was gifted with a Magma Red finish and a blue light bar.

As for the Movano, this receives an on-demand four-wheel drive system from German specialist Oberaigner. The only things that separates the driver from the hugely entertaining idea of full-size panel van offroading is a little switch for activating the AWD.

Nonetheless, while getting to the scene of the emergency is crucial for the rescuers, there’s something else Opel can do for them - the carmaker has provided 2,200 rescue data sheets for 87 Opel models starting from 1991 vehicles. By the way, you can download the info yourself, all you have to do is use a smartphone to access this link.

Opel will be showcasing its emergency vehicle efforts at the RETTmobil 2014 event. In case you want to attend, make sure you go to Fulda, Germany between May 14 and May 16.
