There’s a Playmobil Movie Coming, and the Porsche Mission E Is in It

Germany-based Playmobil introduced at the beginning of the year a new toy in its lineup, the Porsche Mission E. The plastic version of Porsche’s first electric concept will begin selling next month, for $59,99.

Choosing August as the start of sales for the toy is meant to coincide with the launch of the Playmobil movie itself. Titled simply Playmobil: The Movie, it stars Daniel Radcliffe as Rex Dasher, and the Porsche Mission E as a car of choice for the hero in times of need.

The story of the animated flick centers around secret agent Rex Dasher, whose toy world is visited by real-life kids. According to the official plot, “a girl called Marla has to bring home her younger brother Charlie after he disappears into an animated Playmobil universe,” aided by Dasher and a host of other toy characters.

The movie is just one of the ways used by Porsche to bring attention to the launch of the electric Taycan later this year. The car, not very different than the Mission E concept on which it is based, promises to drag Porsche into the future of motoring.

The Taycan is powered by an electric drivetrain that gives it a range of 500 km (311 miles) on a single charge, making it one of the most potent EVs on the market. Two permanently synchronous motors give it a top speed of over 250 kph (155 mph) and a 0-100 kph (62 mph) acceleration time of under 3.5 seconds.

To celebrate its involvement in the movie, Porsche will screen it at its museum in Stuttgart two days in a row, as part of the Porsche4Kids summer holiday program.
