There’s a New Gumpert Hypercar on the Horizon

Shortly after news that the Gumpert brand would be relaunched following its alleged acquisition by a Hong Kong company came up, it seems that Roland Gumpert, together with Reiter Engineering and JAS Motorsport, is now working on a new hypercar.

Few details are known at the moment, but apparently the new vehicle aims at setting a new lap record on the “Green Hell” and taking part in the SRO GT Sports Club events for amateur drivers. Given the three big names that are involved in the creation of this new vehicle, you can bet that it will be as fast as the Apollo, if not even more extreme.

Roland Gumpert is a former Audi engineer who led the R&D team responsible for the legendary Quattro system that helped the German company dominate the rally world in the 1980s. Roland is also known for the Gumpert Apollo, a twin-turbocharged, 4.2-liter-powered beast, capable of 800 horsepower and a 0 to 60 mph sprint of just over 3 seconds.

Reiter Engineering was founded by Hans Reiter in 1994 and is responsible for manufacturing, developing and testing Lamborghini, Chevrolet Camaro, and KTM GT4 or GT3 race cars. The company is famous for some incredible machines such as the Lamborghini Diablo GTR, Gallardo GT3 or the Murcielago R-GT. Reiter’s cars compete in the Blancpain GT Series, ADAC GT Masters, Asian GT, and the Pirelli World Challenge.

Just like the other two names, JAS Motorsport has a deep-rooted racing history, as it is Honda’s official partner, engineer and custom service provider in the World Touring Car Championship.

The Gumpert company went bankrupt in 2012 after failing to gather enough profit from manufacturing the Apollo, and after a potential investor backed out of a deal meant to save the company that is now on the verge of being revitalized with the help of a group of new investors from Hong Kong.

A new chapter in the Apollo saga is expected to be written in 7 days and counting.
