There’s a BMW i8 Spyder Made of Lego Out There and It’s Awesome

While BMW is still pondering whether or not to put the BMW i8 Spyder concept in production, other people are already working on their own models. What we’re about to show you is the only creation of its kind in the world.

We’re talking about a Lego BMW i8 Spyder that is absolutely fantastic. Sure, at first, you might find it hard to cope with the fact that it really is the Bimmer it’s claiming to be but let us walk you through it and you’ll see what’s what.

First of all, the headlights work and so do the taillights. There are five motors in total on board, and they take care of things like opening and closing the doors (that open in the same way as on the real i8, by the way), opening and closing the roof and even steering.

The car is built in 1:10 scale while its total size is 46x20x13 cm and it weighs 1.9 kg (4.2 lbs). What will blow you away completely is its powertrain. That’s right, this thing follows the i8 to the letter and even has a hybrid powertrain under the .... ‘bonnet’.

There are two motors on board. The front axle is driven by one motor hooked up to a two-speed gearbox. At the same time, the rear axle is animated by two motors and activated when the car goes into sport mode. That’s also when it becomes all-wheel drive.

Basically, this is just like the real-life i8 only it doesn’t use an internal combustion unit. Consider us impressed!
