There Are Now 350,000 Ducati Monsters on the Roads

Italian bike maker Ducati ended 2020 in style, showing the latest interpretation of the Monster motorcycle, the lightest ever made. A short time after that, we're getting news of an important production milestone being reached.

The Monster was born in the Ducati stables in 1993 and was quick to rise to the challenge of becoming “the biggest selling family of motorcycles in Ducati's history.” Nearly 30 years after their introduction, the Monsters now count 350,000 on the world’s roads.

The crossing of this threshold was announced this weekend by the Italians. The 350,000th Monster is a 1200 S Black on Black, and, to rise to the occasion, was handed over to the customer at the bike maker’s HQ in Borgo Panigale by the head honcho himself, Claudio Domenicali.

Being a special unit in a long range, this particular bike was gifted with a plate reading 350,000 and a certificate of authenticity.

“Over the course of almost thirty years the Monster has changed, improved and evolved from a technical and aesthetic point of view, but without ever losing sight of its main goal: to be a fun-to-ride bike for motorcyclists from all over the world and inspire new generations of enthusiasts,” the company said in a statement.

“From the legendary Monster 600, which opened the Ducati world to many young motorcyclists, to the second generation with the 696 and 1100 models, passing through the 4-valve versions, up to the most recent 797, 821 and 1200, Monster represents an extraordinary success for the brand and for the Ducati company.”

As for the newcomer, the 2021 Monster promises to keep things as interesting as ever for the months ahead. Weighing just 166 kg (366 pounds) dry, the Testastretta 937cc-engined machine is capable of developing 111 hp at 9,250 rpm.

The bike is equipped with adjustable ABS Cornering, Traction Control, and Wheelie Control. Also, three riding modes are available, selectable through the handlebar controls and the 4.3-inch TFT screen: Sport, Urban, and Touring.

The new Monster will be on dealerships’ shelves in April 2021.
