The WHY Yacht, Priced at $137 Million

After seeing the high interest our readers have shown in our "Wally et Hermes WHY Yacht" piece, we thought best to give you a little update on how this out of this world project is doing. And the verdict is: not well.

For one, the price of the mega-yacht has been estimated by its builders. Depending on the economic health of the world and the desires of the customers, the WHY will cost anywhere in between $68 million to $137 million (50 million and 100 million euros).

Secondly, that amount is only worth anything if the WHY will after all get built. Apparently, the project is gargantuan and those who dreamed it are not as up to the task as they initially believed. According to French website investir.fr, one company in the joint venture, Hermes, decided WHY is a too bigger nut to crack and pulled out from the endeavor.

According to the luxury brand, its shares in the project have now passed over to shipbuilder Wally, leaving it with an extraordinary project, of an uncertain future.

"We are now in the building phase of the project, which is extremely complex and requires decisions to be made to the second," Patrick Thomas, Hermes CEO told Reuters.

"It seemed wise there should be only one decision-maker and we naturally decided to hand the reins over to Wally."

Although in Mr. Thomas statement we can clearly see the WHY is still a go, nothing official has been decided yet. Especially because no single WHY has been ordered yet...
