The Ultimate Sleeper: Supercharged BMW E92 M3

With the new M3 out, the retired model seems a bit outdated and old but not completely unattractive though. Its big, naturally aspirated, high-revving, 4-liter V8 probably weighs the most in this regard, making us drool every time we hear it.

Even so, looking over the specs alone, it’s hard to be extremely impressed. At least by today’s standards that is. The S65 engine is good for 420 HP and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque at most, numbers that are easily achieved by less impressive cars these days.

Take the new M235i, for example. That car has more torque than the V8 from a straight six 3-liter unit thanks to turbocharging. Sure, it lacks some HP but it’s still really close in performance terms, especially considering it’s not a true M car.

This problem can be easily solved by adding one of the various supercharging kits available for the S65 to the mix. One of the most popular choices out there is ESS Tuning’s VT range. Just pop one of those under the bonnet and you’re set.

However, most people that go this way also want to make their cars stand out more. In this regard they usually add a couple of aerodynamic parts to let you know not to mess with them.

But what happens when someone doesn’t want you to know what they’re hiding under the bonnet. You get a sleeper. That’s a car that has seriously more power than it should, without showing it.

The guys from MM Performance just finished working on such a model and it’s looking beautiful. On the outside, nothing tells the story of the storm gathering under the bonnet. Everything looks just like the day the car rolled off the assembly line.

Inside though, there are one or two things that might give you something to think about, like the AWRON Gauge on the dash and the new engine parameters it shows.

Thanks to the ESS VT2-625 Supercharger System, the engine is now pushing 600 HP and 566 Nm (417 lb-ft) of torque to the rear wheels, plenty to make even the new models hide in shame.

Oh, and if there’s one thing that would let you know this car is not stock, from the outside, that would be the Eisenmann race exhaust that will raise the dead with its deafening roar.
