The Toyota Camry Wagon Is Finally Here, Albeit as a CGI

When it comes to the latest generation Camry, Toyota played it safe, and by safe, we mean that it’s only available as a sedan.

That does not make much sense when it comes to Europe anyway, as there is still a decent market for estates there, with both premium and mainstream automakers offering such rides as an alternative to the crossover craze.

A hypothetical rival to other mid-size wagons, it would put pressure on the likes of the five-door versions of the Volkswagen Passat, Skoda Superb, Opel Insignia, and Peugeot 508, which are still relatively popular on the right side of the Atlantic Ocean.

Furthermore, it would also look quite good, as we’ve seen in the numerous renderings that have surfaced over the years. The latest came via sugardesign on Instagram, and show it with a family-friendly vibe, enhanced by the longer roof ending with a spoiler, redesigned back end, and bigger trunk area than its sedan counterpart.

With the 3.6-liter V6 engine under the hood, rated at 297 hp (301 ps / 221 kW) and 267 lb-ft (362 Nm) of torque, hooked up to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, it would also offer a more-than-decent 0 to 60 mph (0-97 kph) time and top speed.

Now, while certain car manufacturers still believe that station wagons have a future, Toyota does not, at least when it comes to the Camry, because the smaller Corolla is offered in the Touring Sports body style too. As a result, don’t hold your breath for one, as it won’t happen, and it is likely that the five-door version won’t launch with its successor either, which is probably a couple of years away, considering that the current-gen Camry entered production in 2017. Still, if they offered a Camry wagon, would you have considered buying it?
