The Stunning Lamborghini Miura of the 1960s

If you want proof that car design really peaked in the 1960s, you need to look no further than the beautifully-styled Lamborghini Miura, a car which created and defined an entire genre - the supercar.

When it was first unveiled, back in 1966 and was built until 1972 - a total of 764 were built. It not only looked stunning, but it was also innovative in its design, featuring a transversally-mounted 3929cc V12 engine which produced 350 hp.

However, what was underneath the bodywork really didn’t interest the people who first saw it, or the millions of ‘fans’ it now has around the world. Its main party piece was its styling by Bertone, which gave it a curvy and low stance, the likes of which had never been seen before.

The Miura received periodic updates until it was phased out in 1972, and by the end of production it had lost the appealing ‘eye lashes’ which surrounded its ingenious pop-up headlights, which had become covered and fixed.

Sadly, with such a small number being made, you’re very unlikely to see one on the road, and if you do want to feast your eyes on it in the metal, you will need to go to a specialized event where such cars and their owners gather to exchange opinions and admire each other’s cars.
