The Story of a BMW Z1 Fan

BMW’s history has been marked by a continuos string of iconic models that made more or less of a difference in the automotive world. From the 328 model to the i8, along the way you’ll find all sorts of ‘hits’ and ‘flops’. The Z1 was one of them.
We won’t force it into one category but we’ll acknowledge what BMW wanted to offer the world: a car that offered numerous possibilities.

The Z1 used E30 underpinnings. Therefore, logic dictates that it should’ve been a really nice driving car. And it was. The problem was not everyone was as open minded as the Germans hoped. The Z1 was there ahead of its time.

Its body was made of thermoplastic panels that were interchangeable. One of the selling points any sales person would use was that BMW claimed you could actually take all the panels off of the car in a matter of a couple of minutes. You could then change them with ones in a different color and refresh your ride. It was, if you will, possibly the best car for thieves and robbers as they could fool the cops in real life just as easy as you do in GTA.

It also had retractable doors that hid inside the side sills. They weren’t all that great for ladies that preferred skirts to pants but they were rather interesting for the men out there and saved a lot of space in parking lots.

As we said, the Z1 however was too futuristic for its time. It wasn’t a very popular car and was discontinued after just 2 years of production, in 1991. For some people though, those two years were enough to kindle a fire in their hearts that would never go away. One of them was Adem Solmaz. Let’s check out his story in the video below.
