There has to be a reason for why smart decided to also manufacture an electric bike and we're pretty sure that there is a niche of bicycle riders somewhere out there who, for some reason, need the extra oomph of an electric motor while riding towards some group of trees to hug.
Available to buy from September, the smart ebike was also present at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show with a range of new accessories.
These include an adjustable suspension fork, a bespoke luggage rack with integrated side bags, panniers for the electric beast of burden, a smartphone holder with flexible holding arms that is suitable for any smartphones with screen sizes from 3.5 to 4.3 inches, a set of higher and more comfortable handle bars and a comfort saddle with pressure-relieving gel.
Visitors of the Frankfurt Motor Show can test ride a small fleet of 16 smart ebikes from the main station to the actual exhibition site and also on a 95 meters-long track right in front of the main entrance to the show. A smart ebike simulator is also available for the people who probably don't have enough courage to ride the real thing.
