Bicycle trailers are a thing of the past, at least for those who also want their ride to look as classy as it gets. Here is the Scandinavian Sidecar, a funny and fun contraption that will change your man-powered two-wheeler dramatically.
As its very name says it, you're looking at a sidecar that can be attached to virtually any bicycle. It comes with a sturdy frame on which the hub is mounted, a third wheel plus all the mounting brackets and hardware needed.

Initially created as an alternative to bicycle baskets, the Scandinavian Sidecar was quickly adapted so it can also carry two children, provided you decide to buy the cushion seats, seat belts and all. Looking at it makes us think you will give this a try, even before showing it to your kids. If they see it, you're doomed anyway!

How about turning it into a sled?

If you live in an area where it also snows, you'll be thrilled to learn that the sidecar can be easily transformed into a sled, as well. The hub is engineered in such a way that it will fit cross-country ski tracks. The harness is easy to attach and you're good to go. Just bear in mind that tying it to the back of a snowmobile is NOT what the makers intended.

The hub can be bought in fiberglass and carbon fiber, with prices varying accordingly, and a wide variety of accessories (including a tonneau cover) are available.

Being a Danish product, you just can't expect it to be anything but expensive, like most things in Scandinavia. The fiberglass version is approximately €1,410 ($1,600), while the carbon model is €1,950 ($2,200), both in base trim, gizmag says. Adding cushions and other accessories will require a bigger check.

Even if expensive, the idea is great, and will also provide your kids with a completely different point of view when you take them for a ride. Just don't look surprised when they are looking for the engine later on.
