Robots are taking over, and that’s not some offhand remark about a possible dystopian future. It’s reality, as revealed at the 2021 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show, now underway.
One of the companies in attendance is UK-based Moley Robotics, which has been working on a robotic kitchen since 2015 when it unveiled a first working prototype. Several years and iterations later, the first commercial version of this robotic kitchen, also called Moley, is ready to go out to customers. And it’s everything a busy or even a very lazy cook could ever dream of.

As the press release sent out on the occasion notes, this isn’t just your run-of-the-mill robot. It’s not something that cooks your food like a machine, but rather “it captures human skills in motion.” The Moley Kitchen uses a pair of robotic arms with fully articulated hands by SCHUNK, specially designed cookware and utensils, sensors and cameras, and a vast library of recipes.

Once you order this luxurious and very high tech kitchen, you get the assurance that you will have someone something cooking all the food for you in the perfect manner, and will handle the cleaning both before and after meals. The robot can do everything pertaining to cooking, from pouring water into pots and pans to adjusting the heat and selecting ingredients, but it is also perfectly able to do plating. Like a chef, one assumes.

Recipes are by three certified chefs, Tim Anderson (winner of the BBC Master Chef in 2011), Nicole Pisani and Andrew Clarke, who have created 30 dishes to be showcased at CES. New recipes will be added on a monthly basis, and owners will also be able to include favorite family dishes to the library, which will eventually expand to comprise no less than 5,000 recipes. So much for being stuck in a culinary rut.

Moley will be offering two models of the robotic kitchen. The “R” is an IoT-enabled kitchen that comes with or without the robot arms, smart fridge, and professional-grade induction hob, oven, and sink. The “X” model comes with the robot arms as standard. Further customization is possible in terms of finishes, with Moley offering premium marbles, Corian and onyx worktops, bespoke cabinets, and bespoke cookware.

Every Moley Kitchen is bespoke, the company says. This is a premium product and, more importantly, it’s the first of its kind in the world. As such, it is “priced accordingly,” which means exactly what you think it means: if you have to ask, you can’t afford it.

Here’s the robotic kitchen making two types of pasta and a risotto dish.
