Dizygotic twins are more commonly known as fraternal twins. If there was an equivalent for them in the automotive world, that would be cars from different brands made over the same platform. Stellantis already has the Peugeot 308 and the Opel Astra, but the rendering artist decided to imagine their sedan versions: the 408 and the Astra Sedan.
The 408 ended up being a shorter 508 with the 308 front end, which is not a bad idea. Many people who loved the Peugeot 508 would probably be happy with a more affordable and shorter version. Sadly, the European market for sedans is not going that well, and people now prefer SUVs and crossovers. The only exception is for D-segment sedans and above, in which the customer profile is more conservative.
The Opel Astra Sedan would not look like any larger sedan in the Opel lineup, which currently resumes to the Insignia. Theottle used the Astra Sports Tourer as the base for the sedan. However, the C-pillar and the trunk lid were borrowed from a car you may never be able to guess. We’ll give you time to watch the video embedded below and to make your bets.
As good as these cars look, they would only have some chance of success in emerging markets, where they are considered luxury cars. In other words, in places where the most conservative clients cannot afford bigger sedans. Another possibility for them would be to go on sale in China, where sedans still have quite some demand.
Apart from sharing the same EMP2 platform (which will give birth to the SLTA Medium platform in the future), the sedan versions of the Peugeot 308 and Opel Astra would also share the same fate in most markets for obvious reasons.
If you are done watching the video, we can tell you that Theottle used the Lynk & Co 03 to create the Astra Sedan’s C-pillar and trunk lid. Now that you know that, please let us know which of these two sedans you would prefer if you were considering one regardless of the brands being sold in your country or not. You do not have to consider practical aspects for such a highly hypothetical choice, right?
